The Omega Speedmaster reference 175.0044 is a sophisticated and versatile chronograph from the 1990s, representing a more contemporary evolution of the iconic Speedmaster line. Unlike the traditional manually-wound Moonwatch, this model features an automatic movement and a more complex calendar display, making it both practical and refined.
The watch is typically housed in a 39 mm case, available in stainless steel, yellow gold or a combination of steel and yellow gold, offering a balanced presence on the wrist. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and features a tachymeter scale on the bezel, preserving the sporty DNA of the Speedmaster collection.
Its dial was available in various colors such as silver, white, or blue, and is distinguished by a triple calendar layout, displaying the day, date, and month, along with chronograph subdials that enhance both functionality and visual depth.
Powered by the Omega caliber 1150 automatic movement, the watch offers reliable performance and ease of use, eliminating the need for manual winding. The model is commonly paired with a steel bracelet or leather strap, reinforcing its dual sporty and elegant character.
In 1848, Louis Brandt founded a company in La Chaux-de-Fonds which would become Omega. In the 1880s, the Louis Brandt & Fils company moved to its current site in Bienne and in 1894 the caliber Omega was created, which would give its name to the company. Renowned for its precise, innovative and affordable watches, it became the largest supplier of watches to the British Army during World War II. It also became the first company to time the Olympic Games in 1932. Among its range of numerous professional watches, the Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the moon in 1969.
