Reference 166.020 belongs to the Seamaster De Ville family introduced in the early 1960s.
It is fitted with the automatic caliber 562, part of the 55x series, which does not feature the quick-set date found on the later caliber 565.
The model was offered in a variety of materials, including stainless steel, steel/gold, gold-plated, and solid gold. The “-62” suffix places this example at the beginning of the production, around 1962–1963.
Measuring approximately 34.5 mm and featuring central seconds with a date display, the 166.020-62 sits at the transitional point where the Seamaster and De Ville designations still overlapped, before De Ville became a distinct collection. It stands as one of Omega’s defining elegant automatic watches of the decade.
