The Omega Seamaster Chronograph reference 145.016 is one of the most distinctive and underrated chronographs produced by Omega during the late 1960s. Manufactured around 1968–1969, it perfectly captures the transition from the elegant chronographs of the 1960s to the bold sporting designs that would define the following decade.
Housed in a beautifully proportioned 38 mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case, the watch combines sharp lines with excellent wrist presence. This Seamaster chronograph was designed with improved water resistance, featuring a screw-down case back and a reinforced crystal construction, making it a true sports chronograph.
Powering the watch is the legendary Omega Calibre 861, a manual-winding chronograph movement introduced in 1968 as the successor to the Calibre 321.
In 1848, Louis Brandt founded a company in La Chaux-de-Fonds which would become Omega. In the 1880s, the Louis Brandt & Fils company moved to its current site in Bienne and in 1894 the caliber Omega was created, which would give its name to the company. Renowned for its precise, innovative and affordable watches, it became the largest supplier of watches to the British Army during World War II. It also became the first company to time the Olympic Games in 1932. Among its range of numerous professional watches, the Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the moon in 1969.
