The Piaget reference 10597-2 is a refined example of the brand’s early post-war watchmaking, dating to the late 1940s. Produced during a period when Piaget was still primarily known as a movement manufacturer, this model reflects a discreet yet sophisticated approach to design and craftsmanship.
The watch features a slim, round case in 18k yellow gold, measuring approximately36 mm in diameter – considered oversized for its time. Its elegant dial is typically silvered, combining applied baton hour markers with Roman numerals, and a subsidiary seconds register positioned at 6 o’clock. The overall aesthetic is balanced and understated, characteristic of mid-century Swiss watch design.
Powered by a manual-winding mechanical movement, the reference 10597-2 predates Piaget’s famous ultra-thin calibres, such as the 9P introduced in 1957. As a result, the movement found in this model may vary between examples, reflecting the transitional nature of Piaget’s production during that era.

In 1913, Piaget first began to appear in watch supplier catalogues as the specialist of ultra-thin components. Valentin Piaget took up the baton and pushed innovation to unprecedented heights in 1957 by introducing the 2mm thick 9P movement that caused a sensation, followed by the 12P and its ingenious off-centred 24K gold micro-rotor integrated into the movement plate, which became the world’s thinnest automatic caliber in 1960. It was a milestone in Piaget’s history, technique came at the service of design and enabled the Maison to create elegant and creative timepieces.
