This watch is a perfect example of the famous Speedmaster Solar Impulse HB SIA from 2009.
It is in perfect condition, and presented full set, with 2 bracelets: the black rubber one and the titanium one.
Circling the globe in an aircraft powered by solar energy alone was the ambitious aim of the Solar Impulse Project devised by Swiss pilots, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).
OMEGA was the main sponsor and developed several instruments for the prototype aircraft registered HB-SIA, which has grabbed world attention since the mid-2000.
It demonstrated that the plane’s innovative technology and the vision of the crew were up to the challenge of flying around the world.
The Speedmaster Solar Impulse HB-SIA draws its inspiration from the design and materials of the Solar Impulse prototype aircraft.
Its 44.25mm case is made of titanium and the badge in the color of the project appears on the caseback.
Its dial is in black carbon fiber like the composite skin of the HB-SIA prototype.
A central 24-hour hand shows the time in a second timezone.
The rubber strap (available in black or orange), which was especially designed for this watch, has an inside lining evoking the composite alveolar structure in carbon fiber of the Solar Impulse aircraft. A titanium bracelet was also available.
This model, in a numbered edition, is powered by the chronometer-certified caliber 3603 movement with a co-axial escapement.
The purpose of this document is to determine whether the constituent parts of the watch are conform to the model reference /period or not, and to value their condition and importance.
