The Omega Speedmaster, born in 1957, is one of the most iconic wristwatches ever produced. Since 1965, it has been the choice of space programs for over half a century and has been associated with some of mankind’s greatest space adventures, earning it the name The Moonwatch.
Naturally, beyond its professional use for more than sixty years, the Speedmaster, with its incredible history and its timeless design, has appealed to a much wider public throughout the world.
Since 1968, the reference of the classic Speedmaster Professional has remained unchanged: ST 145.022 or ST 145.0022 (later, to distinguish versions with a steel bracelet 345.0022 was created). In 1988, Omega added a second classification code, named PIC, with 3590.50 for the classic Speedmaster.
Between the 1970s and 1990s, the Speedmaster Professional only evolved with minor changes of parts: dial, bezel, plating colour for certain parts of the movement. A more significant change concerns the case manufacturer. After Huguenin Frères, which has ceased its activities, several manufacturers have followed one another, among them Donzé-Baume (ADB).
