About the Model

This limited series of 1’970 watches commemorates the prototypes of the Alaska Project of the early 1970s which aimed to improve significantly the Omega Speedmaster’s resistance to the extreme temperature variations that NASA astronauts could encounter.

To this end a more reflective white dial was produced. Above all, the watch was fitted with a removable case in red anodized aluminum which had been specially designed and treated to act as a heat shield that would theoretically resist temperatures ranging from minus 150° C to plus 260° C.

To be seen in the dark, the small chronograph hands were given grooves filled with luminous paint. Furthermore to make its reading accurate in the most extreme situations, those chronographs hands were made in a rocket-style shape.
