The Omega Speedmaster, born in 1957, is one of the most iconic wristwatches ever produced. Since 1965, it has been the choice of space programs for over half a century and has been associated with some of mankind’s greatest space adventures, earning it the name The Moonwatch.
Naturally, beyond its professional use for more than sixty years, the Speedmaster, with its incredible history and its timeless design, has appealed to a much wider public throughout the world.
In 1985, Omega presented the first Speedmaster in steel with a sapphire crystal caseback to celebrate 20 years of the Speedmaster flight qualification by NASA. The caliber 861 was upgraded with a luxury finish and renamed 863. This first series was a numbered edition of 1’000 copies, with an individual number engraved on the caseback bezel and on the case between the lugs at 12 o’clock. It is the only Speedmaster with a numbering at this location.
#48.169.xxx is one of the extremely sought-after 345.0808s 1st Series “20 Years Flight-Qualified for Space”, and it is in top condition. Furthermore, it is one of the 40 models delivered to Mexico. These watches have been sent to the Mexican importer with a leather strap (and a reference 145.0808), and have been fitted locally on a special Holzer steel Mexican bracelet.
It deserves a very good Watch Score of 8.9.
