This rare and distinctive Baume & Mercier watch for Asprey was owned and worn by the famous American actor Jerry Lewis.
Mr. Lewis had a strong preference – perhaps an exclusive preference – for midsize watches. At times he wore ladies model watches, and most of the watches that have been seen on his wrist were all midsized or women’s size watches.
This model features a white Roman dial and 18K gold case.
It has all of its original parts and is in pleasing condition, and the case seems unpolished. It comes with the band and buckle that was on the watch when it has been acquired it installed. Interestingly the buckle is an original 18K gold Cartier deployment clasp. It could be that such buckle probably came on another watch from Mr. Lewis and was switched at some point.
Our watchmaker has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled the movement making it ready for immediate enjoyment; otherwise we have left the rest of the watch untouched as it came from Mr. Lewis.
Accompanying the watch is a Certificate of Authenticity and Provenance from a well-known auction house.

In the 1960’s like today, one of the finest names in British luxury was Asprey, similar in essence to Tiffany & Co. and Cartier.
One of their special offerings to their discriminating clients was a line of watches emblazoned with the Asprey name on the dial. Although the maker’s name was often hidden, the retailer contracted with a number of the world’s fine watch and jewelry making firms to produce these treasured timepieces, just like the practice followed by Tiffany and Cartier.
In this case, the watch has been manufactured by Baume & Mercier.
Asprey was established in England in Mitcham, Surrey, in 1781. Founded as a silk printing business by William Asprey, it soon became a luxury emporium. In 1841, William Asprey’s elder son Charles went into partnership with a stationer located on London’s Bond Street. In 1847, the family broke with this partner and moved into 167 New Bond Street. As the business grew, the company acquired manufacturing facilities and hired silversmiths, goldsmiths, jewellers and watchmakers.
