About the Model

The Cosmic collection was introduced in 1947 and Omega had it in production until the mid 1950s. It was certainly one of the most exclusive watches the brand could offer at that time. The Cosmic watches came in two sizes (34-35mm and 37.5mm), and in four different case materials: steel, gold filled, gold-capped, and solid gold variants (14K and 18K). There were six different references:

  • five in the late 1940’s: 2606, 2471,2473, which had a small size (35mm);  2485 and 2486, which were bigger (37,5mm), nicknamed “Jumbo”;
  • and one in the early 1950’s: the last reference of this collection was the 3944. It was smaller in size and had a distinct square case, instead of round like all the others before.

It seems that all of them came on a leather strap with matching buckles.

The watch produced with many variants of dials, with had all a very simple layout:

  • the moonphase aperture at 6 o’clock position, which also serves as the sub second dial where the second’s hand runs over the moonphase disc;
  • the day and month windows are under the name and logo at 12 o’clock;
  • the date is all around the rim of the dial with a pointer hand showing the correct number.

The caliber is the 27 DL (AM PC): DL stands for triple date and moonphase, PC refers to the shock absorber, AM is for antimagnetic, and 27 is for the movement lines number.
