The present watch is a very nice example of Rolex Submariner reference 1680, with a 5.7 mios case serial, from the late 1970s.
It is in very nice condition, with a very sharp case and a perfect dial.
It is fitted with a correct ref. 93150 folded-link Oyster bracelet with no. 580 endlinks (please note that the bracelet’s serial suggests that it is probably more recent than the watch).
About the model
The Rolex Submariner is one of the most sought after and collectable watches, for both modern and vintage examples. Since the model’s introduction in 1953, it has continued to change the landscape of watches and consumer demand.
Since the Submariner’s inception, Rolex has consistently upgraded and updated it with the latest technology, all while staying true to the original design, for the most part.
When the reference 1680 hit the Rolex catalog in the late 1960s, the biggest Submariner change up to that point had occurred with the addition of a date function. Rolex still offers this model with or without the date, and the reference 1680 was the first available with this complication.
This reference was made until the late 1970s with very little variation beyond a change in “Submariner” font color on the dial. Until the 4.0 million serial number, or around the mid-1970s, the model name was featured in red, and then Rolex changed the dial to all-white text.
The caliber inside is a 1575, who is actually a 1570 with a date disc (from 1971, the movement was equipped with “hacking seconds”).
