The present Speedmaster, with serial number #35.580.xxx, is a reference ST 145.022-74.

It is in very good condition, and all its parts are conform, included its original stainless steel bracelet reference 1171/633.

Its dial is called Medium S – Flat Dial in the MOONWATCH ONLY book, a nickname referring to the shape of the capital S of Speedmaster and the fact that it has no step – the previous type was identical but with a step, typical of the 145.022-69s and 145.022-71s.

Produced from 1975 to 1978, this dial is the correct version for this reference ST 145.022-74, and is in perfect condition. The markers have an amazing and rare patina, called “pumpkin”. The original hands have also a nice dark patina, fully coherent with the watch.

One can also note the dark grey faded bezel.

The case is in overall very good condition and has probably never been polished.

Probably one of the nicest 145.022-74s we’ve seen.

About the model

The Omega Speedmaster, born in 1957, is one of the most iconic wristwatches ever produced. Since 1965, it has been the choice of space programs for over half a century and has been associated with some of mankind’s greatest space adventures, earning it the name The Moonwatch.

Naturally, beyond its professional use for more than sixty years, the Speedmaster, with its incredible history and its timeless design, has appealed to a much wider public throughout the world.

The reference ST 145.022 is the successor of ST 145.012 and the first fitted with the caliber 861.
During the first years of production of the ST 145.022, the year of production was engraved inside the caseback: 68, 69, 71, 74, 76 and the last one 78, all made by the case maker Huguenin Frères SA.
