EXTRACT OF ARCHIVES

This model is a Seamaster Memomatic, reference ST 166.0072, in perfect condition.

The Seamaster Memomatic was available in several versions of dials, hands and materials, and in 2 distinct shapes:

  • a case called “pilot”, recalling the lines of the Flightmaster model, for example,
  • a “tonneau” shape.

This is the tonneau-shaped model in steel.

It is fitted with a perfect silver dial (please note the rare Seamaster mention on the dial), black hands, and a self-winding Calibre 980.

About the model

The Seamaster Memomatic was launched by Omega in 1970.

This creation was a double world first in terms of alarm wristwatches:

  • it was the first automatic rotor watch equipped with a single barrel (powering both the time movement and the alarm mechanism), which made it possible to save as much energy as possible;
  • it was also the very first alarm watch that could be be programmed to the minute, by means of a display consisting of two moving discs bearing the alarm markers (a triangle for the hours and a double line for the minutes).

This system was patented in 1968 and published in 1971.
