EXTRACT OF ARCHIVES

This watch is a perfect example of Lemania reference 11022, assigned to the Italian Guardia di Finanza.

Reports mention a production run of only 260 pieces, a real opportunity for collectors of military watches.

Supplied to the pilots of the Guardia di Finanza Air Force, this chronograph, with a steel case and bracelet, is preserved in perfect condition with the identification codes and assignment number still clearly legible.

The impact is the dial is clearly unique, with large hour markers that have taken on a warm patina over time, and matches beautifully with the orange hands.

What stands the fox design for? The coat of arms derives from the Volpe callsign (radio call sign) assigned by the Air Force General Staff to the helicopters of the Guardia di Finanza.

Please note that the Lemania 5100 caliber also also equipped the famous Omega Speedmaster Holy Grail from the 1980s.

About the model

Lemania was founded by watchmaker Alfred Lugrin in 1883. Specialising in high-quality chronographs, stopwatches, and repeaters.

Companies like Omega and Patek Philippe have used Lemania based movements among many others.

In 1932 they became members of the SSIH Group. In 1946 Albert Piquet developed the movement that became the Omega 321 which powered the first Speedmaster in 1957.

Lemania’s name comes from the French for Lake Geneva Lac Leman.

They broke away from the SSIH Group in 1981 and changed its name to Nouvelle Lemania.

In 1992 Lemania was bought by Breguet, who later in 1999 was acquired by the Swatch Group.
