FABIO
Biologist, Watch Collector
Fabio, 30 year old, is a Swiss biologist who got lost in informatics. He is currently working as web developer to create web applications related to life science projects. His three favorite hobbies are: good food, travels and… watches. Long remained as a dream, the latter has recently begun to come true.
1. Do you remember your first watch?
May I have 4 first watches?
The real first was the one my parents brought me back from New-York, a CASIO digital. As a kid I was amazed by this watch and spent a lot of time playing with the chronograph.
The one my wife got me for our engagement, a FREDERIQUE CONSTANT, ref. fc-285b5b6b (probably the last quartz watch I will ever get).
The first beautiful watch I could offer myself: my OMEGA Speedmaster First OMEGA in Space, ref. 311.32.40.30.01.001.
And finally, my first vintage: an OMEGA Speedmaster ST 145.0022.
2. The 3 most iconic watch models?
OMEGA Speedmaster to go from your sports car to a spatial ship (a ROLEX Daytona could also be fine for the sports car part).
JAEGER LECOULTRE Reverso whenever you need to wear a suit (although the Speedmaster is also perfect).
And a ROLEX Submariner in case you need to go diving.
3. A noteworthy anecdote with one of your watches?
After months of research for a nice OMEGA Flightmaster, I finally spotted the one I was looking for. And in order to be sure to have it first, I decided to increase the price the seller was asking for, also to get the watch in the next 24 hours. A major issue is that I did not have enough cash on my current account and I could not access my other accounts from where I was. So, I had to ask my wife to send me the cash in order to buy the watch (my wife is not a watch enthusiast). I managed to convince her (proud) that buying an old watch from the 70s was a good idea and then I finally could rush to catch my train and meet the seller.
I got it!
4. Are you more modern or vintage?
I love vintage watches, they have a soul and a history that you cannot feel with a modern watch. Each of them evolves almost uniquely! But there are some modern pieces that I would like to acquire… 😉
5. I love Speedmasters because …
Because of the story associated with the watch.
Because of its perfectly balanced design.
Because you can wear it in extreme situations: with a space suit or just a standard suit.
And probably, because I spend too much time with Greg, who gave me the OMEGA virus… 😉
6. Your favorite Speedmaster?
For a vintage one: the CK 2998-2 Pulsometer, I love the bezel and the lollipop.
For a modern one: the white Gold Moonphase 145.0055.
7. A single personal item you would take with you for a long stay on the Moon?
If you go to the moon you have to listen to the album The dark side of the moon from the Pink Floyd. If I may add some items, I would take a good book, a private line to call my wife, a good camera to take pictures and of course a Speedmaster or a Flightmaster.
8. You just won the lottery. Do you first buy a sports car or call a financial advisor?
I will go to a financial advisor but I will stop on my way to buy a Porsche. Once I have my car I will go to collect all the watches I have ordered while they were preparing the car. Then I will be ready for some good advices.
9. Where would you spend the next 24 hours if you had a teleporter?
I would go back in the past to spend a day with my father in the mountains (I will probably convince him to make a quick stop by an OMEGA shop to buy a white Gold Moonphase Speedmaster 145.0055).
10. How many times a day do you watch … your watch?
Impossible to tell, I just know that if I would be paid every time that I look at my watch I could have more watches.
11. The last watch you bought?
The OMEGA Seamaster 300 60th anniversary.
12. What’s on your wrist today?
My OMEGA Speedmaster ST 145.0022.
